With every passing day I am becoming increasingly excited for Interpol's forthcoming self-titled release on September 7th.
In addition to the standard CD/deluxe CD version, the album will be available in two different LP versions: an economy-priced single LP at $13.00, and an 180 gram double vinyl edition (two 45 RPM 12"s with large holes) at $19.00 (much like the deluxe CD, the double 12" version will only be available from the Matador Store or from independent record shops). Matador Store preorders will receive a specially designed Interpol 45rpm adapter. A limited number (ie. one per day) of signed Shepard Fairey screenprinted portraits of Paul Banks, Daniel Kessler and Sam Fognarino are being given away as part of the preorder.
You can preorder the album at The Matador Store.

MGMT x Air = Epic. Say what you will about the lack of anthems on Congratulations, but you've got to applaud MGMT for bowing to no one but themselves. They wanted it weird, and, well, it's weird, like Cirque-Du-Solei-as-scored-by-King Crimson weird. The task of remixing album opener and presumptive next single "It's Working" befell French electro astronauts Air, who summed the band's inherent Suicideness (whip crack snares, driving synth tones) and space oddity pop ambitions (cerebral narrative, down-the-rabbit-hole song diversions) into something that sounds less like a "remix" and more like an imaginative extension of the original. It's dramatic and surprisingly playful; a complete tie-dyed, candy-striped, pupil-dilating world of its own.
