[Listen] RJD2 Presents: The Insane Warrior - We Are The Doorways

I was sworn to secrecy not to reveal any information on this project until the time was right and what better time to drop this on you guys than the first weekday of the new year! RJD2 and his label RJ’s Electrical Connections is also pleased to announce the debut record from The Insane Warrior (side project of DJ/Producer mastermind RJD2), We Are The Doorways, coming February 1.

This instrumental album was loosely inspired by horror and sci-fi film scores of the 70s and early 80s and reminds me of the music that RJ has done on his record The Third Hand and the score he did for Marc Ecko's graffiti video game Getting Up. Starting today, fans can pre-order the CD or digital version of the album exclusively on Bandcamp and receive an immediate free download of a track from the release, “The Water Wheel.” But you can also grab another free track for a limited time titled “Then You Hear Footsteps” in the player below.

In addition, an RJD2 & The Insane Warrior limited edition deluxe package is available for pre-order starting today. Available only on Bandcamp, this special offer includes the We Are the Doorways CD, RJD2’s 2002-2010 vinyl box set (including Deadringer LP, The Horror EP, Since We Last Spoke LP, and the exclusive Tin Foil Hat EP), The Colossus LP, a signed silkscreen poster, and The Insane Warrior’s We Are The Doorways CD for only $80. Crazy! Check out the 2 tracks below and then head over to RJ's Bandcamp site to grab your own copy of this dope ass album.

Last week on Christmas Eve he posted up a video of the guys performing at the Bowery Ballroom and again on New Years Eve he posted up another! Up top you can take a look at a performance of "Some What Damaged" at the Bowery Ballroom on August 22nd back in 2009. After the jump you can then enjoy "Just Like You Imagined" filmed  at LA's Henry Fonda Theater on September 8th,  again in 2009.

[Listen] R.E.M. - "Oh My Heart" x "It Happened Today"

Take a listen to another few new cuts from R.E.M. and their new album Collapse Into Now’s which is set for release on March 8th (7th in the UK) via Warner Bros. In a statement to NPR Michael Stripe said about "Oh My Heart": "It's a very quiet and very meditative song dedicated to New Orleans-- about New Orleans. Jacknife [Lee] is great as a producer, because he saw that we were struggling with what is a very quiet song. We were standing really far away from each other in the room, and it was hard not only to actually physically hear each other, but it felt dispersed. He brought us into the middle, and instantly, of course, the song worked."

As well as this you can also watch a lyric video for track "It Happened Today" that the band recently posted up onto Youtube. Enjoy them both and see if you're going to get excited for one of 2011's most anticipated albums.

[Watch] Jónsi - "Sticks and Stones" (Video)

Feast your eyes on this nice video for track "Sticks and Stones" by the Sigur Rós frontman Jónsi that appeared on the soundtrack for the great film How to Train Your Dragon. The video which was created by the guys at Dreamworks Animation, uses scenes from the film chopped together to create a moving peice of imagery to go along side the track. Enjoy it in all it's glory up top via Vulture. If you haven't checked out the film yet go do it. The track also makes an appearance on Jónsi's recently released Go Live album.

[SKOA Presents] The 25 Best Albums of 2010: 10-6

10. Maps & Atlases - Perch Patchwork [Buy CD | Vinyl]

Intricate fretwork paired with Dave Davison’s unique and intriguing voice Maps & Atlases full length debut showed a growth from their previous EP releases. Tracks like “Living Decorations” had you at the first drum beat, and by the second play of the album you’d be singing along to the chorus of ‘Pigeon” and “The Charm”. The opening track on the album starts with a harmony sang by Dave, Shiraz Dada, Chris Hainey and Erin Elders and sets the pace for the album and as the album progresses the lyricism is a wonder to behold and has elements we can all relate to on some level or another. This album manages to put together intricate guitar lines and Daves voice perfectly in a way that will have you constantly dipping your toes back in for another listen. The album ends with the band doing an a capella which fades into nothingness. A beautiful ending to a stunning debut with the last lyrics being “we will take what we can get”, and that boys is two huge thumbs up from me. - Shey

[Listen] You Me At Six - "Rescue Me" Feat. Chiddy Bang

It's good to see some guys trying new things and not being too afraid to piss off a few fans now and then by heading in a different direction and maybe recording a track that may not fall into the bands normal catagory. You Me At Six have done exactly that and today unleashed a new track featuring none other than Chiddy Bang and the result is pretty darn good as well as catchy. We've seen the success of B.o.B and Hayley Williams' track "Airplanes" in 2010. I'm not making an outright comparison to the two but you get my drift, pop-punk artist meets rapper and make a decent collaboration. Check out the track, "Rescue Me" for yourself below and see what you think of it.
