Well isn't this a treat. Earlier in the year for Record Store Day Feist and Mastodon released a version of one anothers' tracks after a chance meeting on the BBC's Later... with Jools Holland. Mastodon tackled the Metals featuring track "A Commotion" whilst Feist took on Mastodon's "Black Tongue" from The Hunter. Today a video for "A Commotion" has hit the net and it's an interactive video that features a crossfade letting you manually flick between either version of the song. It's pretty darn cool and you can play with it over here.
Last week we got to preview the awesome sounding release from Feist and Mastodon that they put out for Record Store Day. Speaking of, we hope you had an awesome day on Saturday and managed to get everything you wanted! As well as that release with Feist, Mastodon offered up a cover of The Flaming Lips' 1999 track "A Spoonful Weighs A Ton". Of course as with most things on tumblr that have a fan base, Mastodon have a Fuck Yeah site who, following RSD, posted up the track which can now be streamed below. We'll be throwing up more RSD releases throughout the morning so be prepared for some more awesome coming your way.
Last year on one fateful evening in the UK, Mastodon and Feist happened to be playing the same night on Later... with Jools Holland. Eyes met across the room and rumours began as to the two releasing a split of some kind. Fast forward to the here and now and Tomorrow is a very big day for a lot of music fans. It's Record Store Day. Feist and Mastodon, nicely coined as Fesitdon have now offered up the tracks they are releasing tomorrow via a 7". Mastodon tackle the Metals featuring track "A Commotion" while Feist takes on Mastodon's "Black Tongue" from The Hunter. This is very high on my shopping list for tomorrow! See what you make of the two impeccable covers below via LBYB.
With Mastodon about to take the UK by storm along with the help of Dillinger Escape Plan in the coming month, the band have unleashed a rather trippy looking teaser for their new video. For The Hunter's track "Dry Bone Valley" and it uses the animation we've come to get used to in their promo over the past 6 months along with a little surprise at the end. As well as that this one has thrown in an extra few bucket loads of acid. See what you make of the tease at the top and keep your eyes peeled as beneath the trailer it says the full vid will premier on "Tuesday 1/23 at 4pm PST"?! Watch this space.
UPDATE: The official video can now be watched after the jump. That didn't take long, did it?! This video is even more trippy in the full version. Hot damn! My eyes hurt after watching it.
I love it when stuff like this comes together. Remember a month or so ago when Mastodon and Feist played Later... with Jools Holland? During that performance apparently Feist and Brent Hinds were exchanging looks in the studio:
"Brent [Hinds] and I were nodding at each other, and he's like, 'Nice riff,' and I'm like 'Nice tone.' So backstage I'm thinking about letting these two worlds collide, how they should collide, so I'm like 'How about Metals meeting metal? Brent was like, 'Well, I do like that 'Bad in Each Other' song, I could see that.' Maybe now I will look into learning to cover 'Oblivion'… or anything off [The Hunter]. That album's amazing."As previously reported, Canadian indie-rock songstress Leslie Feist recently revealed her hopes to collaborate with metal titans Mastodon, following the two acts’ recent appearance on Later… with Jools Holland."
Now, Mastodon’s Troy Sanders has revealed some awesome news in a chat with MTV News Canada (via Pitchfork). Mastodon and Feist are to release a split single on Record Store Day in 2012. Seriously! Two whole piles of awesome coming together to release what will surely be a great little listen of their personal takes on one another's tracks. At the top of the page you can peep the interview with MTV News.
Earlier in the week (Wednesday) we posted a video of Mastodon making their more than impressive debut on Later... with Jools Holland on which we saw them shred through "Black Tongue". However, that was just the preview of what was to come on the full show tonight (Friday) as this eve, the full show aired and above you can enjoy them performing lead single from The Hunter "Curl of the Burl". It's more than dope and well worth a late Friday night watch (early Saturday morning for European peeps). Happy weekend folks.
As you saw earlier, Bon Iver brought a more than solid performance of "Towers", Mastodon made their presence known to the masses with a 3 minute slaying of instruments and their track "Black Tongue". The four piece are looking tighter than ever with this performance and they look to be enjoying themselves which is always good. Check it out at the top and in case you missed the announcement, they'll be headlining venues across the UK come February 2012. Dates can be seen over here and their fantastic new album The Hunter can be picked up here.
