[Listen] Stream New Albums from Damon Albarn, Santigold and Rufus Wainwright

On May 8th, the soundtrack to Damon Albarn's Dr. Dee opera will be released through Virgin Records, and is now available to stream in full via NPR.org. The opera and soundtrack were inspired by 18th-century mathmetician and Elizabeth I advisor John Dee, and Albarn has created eighteen tracks with this to guide him. The sountrack boasts eighteen tracks, all of which were recorded by Albarn in his West London studio as well as with the help of the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra in Salford.

Also streaming on NPR.org are the upcoming albums from both Santigold and Rufus Wainwright. Santigold's highly anticipated sophomore LP Master of My Make Believe is set for release on May 1st via Downtown/Atlantic Records, and sees contributions from Major Lazer's Switch, Dave Sitek of TV on the Radio, and many more. You can stream it here. Rufus Wainwright's seventh studio album, Out of the Game, is also streaming on NPR.org, and will also see release on May 1st via Decca Records. The 12-track effort was produced by Mark Ronson, and will feature guest appearances from Miike Snow's Andrew Wyatt, Wilco's Nels Cline, and several others including his sister Martha Wainwright.

[Watch] Rufus Wainwright - "Out Of The Game" (Official Video)

NYC chanteur extraordinare Rufus Wainwright enlists actress Helena Bonham Carter in his video for his single, "Out Of The Game", from his upcoming album of the same namem which drops on May 1st in the US (April 24th in Canada) via Decca. In the video the well seasoned actress plays a librarian that is forced to put up with the many... interesting people... that hang out at the library, which are all hilariously played by Wainwright. I think my favorite of the Wainwright characters is the alcoholic lady. I love the man, but I am glad that he is not a lady, if you know what I mean.

While you're waiting for Out Of The Game to drop, if you are a gifted remixer you can enter his curent contest for a chance to win $1,000, an autographed vinyl copy of the album and a deluxe edition of the album - all for submitting a remix of "Bitter Tears". Entries for the remix contest must be in by April 10th, so head over to his official website for more information.

[Watch & Listen] Rufus Wainwright Shares Teaser Of Mark Ronson Produced Album x "Montauk"

Although I admittedly was not a huge fan of Rufus Wainwright's last album, All Days Are Nights: Songs For Lulu, when word broke that the singer-songwriter was going to be working with legendary producer Mark Ronson on his upcoming album, Out Of The Game, it almost immediately sparked my addiction to him again. Although the title track and first single of the album won't be dropping until April 16th (March 13th digitally), one of New York's biggest and most beatiful voices has provided fans with a teaser video (above) with snippets of some of the music included on the album along with commentary from both him and Ronson about the making of the album.

Additionally, last Friday Wainwright shared a track from the album on KCRW called, "Montauk". In addition to an infectious vocal melody that will have you humming the song hours after you finish listening to it, the song is full of cleverly written lyrics that I can only assume are addressed to his daughter Viva. Have a listen to "Montauk" via the player below.

Thanks to Drowned In Sound for the heads up!

[Watch] Rufus Wainwright - "Minuit Chrétiens" Live on Fallon

Offering up something a little different for the masses last night, Jimmy Fallon presented his viewers with a musical gift from Rufus Wainwright. He appeared on the late night slot to perform "Minuit Chrétiens" originally by Placide Cappeau. Sound familiar? You may recognise it as the better known Christmas carol "O Holy Night". Fun piece of pub-quiz knowledge: "O Holy Night" was technically the second piece of music to ever be played on radio way back in 1906 courtesy of Canadian inventor Reginald Fesseden (that bit I Googled), the 1906 part I learnt recently at an actual Christmas pub quiz! Whatever, enough facts and fun, hit play at the top and enjoy Rufus' performance courtesy of The Audio Perv.
