While we wait for Major Lazer's sophomore album Free the Universe, which has had multiple delays, the Diplo-led project is making up for it with three free mixtapes. The first, Vol. 1, was released a few weeks back and now they've offered up Vol. 2. This one features remixes of "Original Don", "Jah No Partial" and "Get Free" along with a Baauer rework. Download it here.
Free the Universe is out on April 19th, and check out the Ezra Koenig-featuring single "Jessica" here.
Lazer Strikes Back Vol. 2 Tracklist:
1. Major Lazer – “Original Don” feat. The Partysquad (Flosstradamus Remix)
2. Major Lazer – “Jah No Partial” feat. Flux Pavillion (The Reef Remix)
3. Major Lazer – “Get Free” feat. Amber of The Dirty Projectors (Blood Diamonds Remix)

It was reported last year that Vampire Weekend's Ezra Koenig was going to feature on Major Lazer's Free the Universe, and now you can hear the results of that collaboration. Koenig was quick to post a radio rip of the new track, titled "Jessica", after it debuted on Annie Mac's BBC Radio show this weekend. The cut features some sultry vocals from the VW frontman, and mellow, tropical jams to match his longing croons. Stream the track below.
Free the Universe is (hopefully) out on April 19th, while Vampire Weekend's third album Modern Vampires of the City is set to drop on May 7th.
Major Lazer are doing their best to please fans after recently delaying Free the Universe, first offering up one of three free mixtapes. Now, the Diplo-led collective has offered up "Watch Out For This (Bumaye)", the next single from their upcoming sophomore effort, which pushes forward with sweaty jungle influences that draw you deep into its alluring exotic rhythms. It's sexy, it's intoxicating, and it has me very excited to hear the full album.
Free the Universe has no firm release date, but in the meantime you can catch Major Lazer on the road. Check out their full tour, which kicks off on February 28th, after the jump.
Bad news for Major Lazer fans, as Diplo has announced that Free the Universe has been delayed. The Diplo-led project was supposed to deliver their sophomore LP on February 26th—it was previously delayed till that date from November 6th—but now the album is without a firm release date. In a statement to fans, Diplo said:
We never want to disappoint our supporters but circumstances out of our control have made us unable to keep the intended date. For anyone disappointed, we are truly apologetic and we promise that this hiccup has only made what we have planned for the album stronger. We tried extremely hard to keep the date but it was ultimately decided that rushing the album would have been unfair to you and everyone who worked so hard on it."
In the meantime though, Diplo and co. will offer up three free mixtapes made up of unreleased and rare material. The first, Lazers Strike Back Vol 1., is available now, and you can grab it here. As well, the next single from Free the Universe, titled "Watch Out for This (Bumaye)", will be offered up for free to those who pre-order the album through iTunes. Pre-orders start on February 26th.
Major Lazer will be hitting the road soon, so make sure to check out their full tour docket here.
Major Lazer's long-awaited sophomore album Free the Universe is set to release (hopefully) at the end of February, and following that the Diplo-led collective will carry out an extensive worldwide tour. Starting on February 28th in Toronto, the tour will take Diplo and friends all across Canada, the U.S., South America, the United Kingdom, and numerous countries throughout Europe. The tour will also see Major Lazer joined by a star studded supporting cast, including Angel Haze, Lunice, Starfucker, and Dragonette. Check out the full tour schedule after the jump.
Free the Universe is out on February 19th via Diplo's Mad Decent label.
Major Lazer's collaboration with UK heavy hitter Flux Pavillion is a mix of genres but the video is a party scene. By party scene I mean it's a video showing Diplo and friends on the road, bringing their music to the masses via parties and festivals. It looks like one hell of a good time.
