Yasiin Bey, formerly known as Mos Def, has used the celebration of Martin Luther King Day as the launching pad for his Top 40 Underdog series in which he freestyle raps over and reimagines Top 40 tracks in a more socially conscious and politically relevant manner. The first Top 40 track that Bey has undertaken is Kanye West and Jay-Z's hit "Niggas In Paris" from their collaborative album Watch The Throne. [Watch] Mark Ronson - "A La Modeliste" Feat. Mos Def & Erykah Badu

Remember Hyundai's RE:GENERATION project from last year? The ball is still rolling and a visual featuring Mark Ronson, Mos Def and Erykah Badu has hit the web. It sees them in the studio performing a track titled "A La Modeliste". It features assistance from Trombone Shorty, Zigaboo Modeliste along with members of The Dap Kings. Give the blues ridden track a watch/listen at the top and look out for more visuals in the coming months from the likes of DJ Premier, Skrillex and more.

Ohhhh yeah, last night Jimmy Fallon set the bar high for the rest of the year with a visit from Black Star aka the pairing of Mos Def and Talib Kweli. Performing alongside The Roots they put in performances of two tracks from their Aretha Franklin inspired mixtape. For the masses watching at home they performed "You Already Knew" whilst J-Fal also upped a web exclusive performance of "Little Brother". [Download] B.o.B - 'E.P.I.C.' (Mixtape)

B.o.B has let loose his Every Play Is Crucial mixtape or E.P.I.C. for short, and you can download it for the rather nice price of, well, free! In between touring and preparing the release of his new album Strange Clouds for early next year, this E.P.I.C. mixtape offers up some new tunes that should give fans something to tide them over into 2012 and features appearances from Mos Def, Eminem, T.I., Lil Wayne and more. [Listen] Black Star - "You Already Knew"

After debuting their first single "Fix Up" on The Colbert Report last month, Black Star, aka Talib Kweli and Yasiin "Mos Def" Bey, gave fans a double dose of music last Friday. After revealing that they will be putting out an Aretha Franklin-inspired mixtape, the duo released "Fix Up" digitally via iTunes this past Friday, along with another brand new track from the upcoming mixtape. The track, titled "You Already Knew," was produced by OhNo, and is available for your listening pleasure below or for download at the cost of your email address here.

No news yet on when the mixtape will be released, but expect more information to surface in the coming months.

[Watch] Watch G.O.O.D. Music's SXSW Performance Featuring Kanye & Jay-Z, Mos Def, Pusha T, KiD CuDi & More

Well, it took a while but I'm sure it was worth the wait. Back in March at SXSW in Texas, Kanye West played an old power plant in front of a crowd of VIP's and very lucky SOB's who managed to either bribe their way past the crazy security or sneak in some other way. All we know is, chances are you didn't get to witness the extravaganza of Kanye and his G.O.O.D. Music crew, so now you can from the comfort of your own home thanks to Vevo who were on hand at the show to record it all! The performance features appearances from Jay Z, Pusha T, Mos Def, Big Sean,  John Legend and Kid Cudi. Check out the videos after the jump.

[News] Mos Def Joins "Dexter" Season 6 Cast

This Fall, Showtime's Dexter will begin its sixth season, where main character Dexter Morgan will once again take on the serial killer population of Miami. As reported by Billboard, hip hop legend Mos Def will join the cast for a multiple episode story arc during the sixth season, alongside Michael C. Hall, Jennifer Carpenter, and many more. According to Billboard, Mos Def "will play a hardened ex-con who claims to have found religion yet seems to continually find himself surrounded by violence. Michael C. Hall's Dexter will reveal the truth of who he really is."

Season six will also be starring Colin Hanks (Mad Men), who is set to be the villain. Production will begin next month, while the show will begin airing sometime this Fall.

[Listen] Mos Def Throws Acapella Over Tyler, The Creator's "Yonkers"

Remember when everyone ran scared from their TV sets after OFWGKTA took to Jimmy Fallon's late night show, peeping slightly over the top of the couch. In equal measures people were open mouthed at what was unfolding before them, as the masses were introduced to Odd Future. After the performance of "Sandwitches" was complete Tyler was jumping on Fallon and all hell seemed to break loose, however Mos Def seemed hyped to the max at the performance and continuing his support of the OF gang he has done an acapella during an April 9th performance in Pamona.

According to Irockcollege.com (via CoS), Mos Def gave the audience a heads up to film what was about to happen. What it was that he wanted them to record was him spitting a 1:11 freestyle to accompany the beats of Tyler, The Creator’s huge single “Yonkers”. If you've played "Yonkers" more than a few times on iTunes you may be able to follow, if not there's another helping hand from the instrumental below. The momentum keeps growing and with a sold out East Cast tour set for May from Tyler and Co the speed is going to keep building.
