[News] Unknown Mortal Orchestra Announce Sophomore Album: 'II'

Unknown Mortal Orchestra have announced that their sophomore album II, the follow-up to their fantastic 2011 self-titled debut, will see release on February 5th. The band's second outing sees them illustrating "the emotional turmoil of life on the road, painting surrealist, cartoonish portraits of loneliness, love and despair." Is there any reason not to be stoked about some new UMO?

In the meantime, you can stream the II track "Swim and Sleep (Like a Shark)" below. As well, after the jump, you can take a look at the tracklisting for the album (official artwork pictured above).

[Listen] Unknown Mortal Orchestra - "Swim and Sleep (Like a Shark)"

Unknown Mortal Orchestra have just embarked on a month-long tour opening for Grizzly Bear, but before their touring schedule took over, the Portland outfit has been hitting the studio. The band is reportedly working on the follow-up to their fantastic self-titled debut, which dropped in June of last year, and the results are good. First, we heard the Adult Swim Singles Program release  "I'll Come Back 4 U", and now the group have dropped a new track titled "Swim and Sleep (Like a Shark)". The odd-yet-groovy psychedelic jam will be released as a tour-only 7" through the band's new label Jagjaguwar, so make sure to pick it up while you have the chance. If not, you can always stream it below.

[SKOA Presents] Some Kind of Mixtape: June 2012

Summer is finally upon us! It seems almost everyone far and wide is caught in a nasty heat wave. Now that the season is in full swing, it's time to grab the coldest of beers, put on some sunscreen, toss on some killer jams and make the most of all of the sunshine. Of all the mixes we've made up to this point, I think all four of us can agree that this is the one we're the most pleased about. It seems the warmer it gets the tracks just get better and better.

Make sure to follow us over on 8tracks if you happen to enjoy the mix below. As always, you can learn more about why we've chosen the tracks that we did after the jump!

[Listen] Unknown Mortal Orchestra - "Satanic Planet" (From Daniel Johnston's Space Ducks: Soundtrack)

Last week, SKoA favorites Unknown Mortal Orchestra released a new tune on the soundtrack to accompany Daniel Johnston's comic book Space Ducks: An Infinite Comic Book of Musical Greatness titled "Satanic Planet". Sadly, the awesome new song will not be featured on the upcoming sophomore effort by UMO, as stated on their twitter, and will only appear on the soundtrack as it was based on the comic itself. The album is now available Johnston's Eternal Yip Eye label and features new music by Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Eleanor Friedberger, Deer Tick, Fruit Bats, Lavender Diamond and Johnston himself. Head over to iTunes to pick yourself up a copy of the soundtrack as well as the digital comic.

Check it out at the top and if you like what you hear their album, Unknown Mortal Orchestra is out now via Fat Possum.
