[News] The Roots Reveal 'undun' Tracklist, Sufjan Stevens Cameo

Philadelphia-based hip hop/soul group and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon house band The Roots recently announced their thirteenth studio album undun. Along with the announcement came the unveiling of the first single from the album, titled "Make My." The first single also showed us the first at the first guest artist on the album would be Mississipi rapper Big K.R.I.T. Now, courtesy of 2dopeboyz, we have the entirety of the albums tracklisting, which also reveals who the remainder of the guest artists are. Frequent collaborators Phonte, Dice Raw and P.O.R.N. will be making appearances on this album, but, in an interview with SPIN Magazine, ?uestlove revealed that none other than Sufjan Stevens would be contributing. Here's what he had to say about Mr. Stevens role:
“We’ve always loved the song ‘Redford’ from Michigan. So we close the new album with a cover of ‘Redford’. We stretched it out into this four-part movement. Part 1 is Sufjan at the piano performing it. And then Part 2 is a string quartet that we had interpret it. Part 3 is myself and D.D. Jackson, who is an avant-garde piano player. He's probably one of the most dangerous pianists — I don't know how he doesn't have carpal tunnel now. But he just destroys, literally, destroys the piano. The final movement, which ends the record, is essentially the beginning of the story. But it's the last thing you hear. It's a very powerful piece of work. Dare I say that undun is probably as good as it's going to get for the Roots."
undun is out on December 6th via Def Jame Records. You can check out the tracklisting for the album after the jump.

[News] Sigur Rós Set to Release New Album in Spring 2012

With the release of their concert film and live album INNI fast approaching, Icelandic band Sigur Rós have unveiled plans to release a brand new studio album this coming Spring. After lead singer Jónsi's 2010 tour in support of his solo album Go, the band "went straight to work at their studio" to work on the follow-up to 2008's Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust.
When speaking to The Wall Street Journal, the band talked briefly about the album and the new direction they've taken, with bassist Georg “Goggi” Hólm calling it "introverted," while lead singer Jón “Jónsi” Þór Birgisson said it was "floaty and minimal." As well, drummer Orri Páll Dýrason calls it "[a]n ambient album, with a slow takeoff toward something."
Expect more news regarding the album to surface in the coming months, and look forward to the release of INNI on November 15th via XL Recordings.

[News] Mark Lanegan Readies New Album: 'Blue Funerals'
Mark Lanegan has taken to his official website to announce his seventh studio album, Blue Funerals. As of yet though there is little more information about the album and it's contents. The album will be released under "The Mark Lanegan Band" which Antiquiet points out is probably due to the amount of contributors on the album. AQ also have some footage of a couple of potential album tracks from a show in Hollywood earlier in the year.
Blue Funerals is slated for a February 6th release and after the jump you can peep the dates of a European tour that's been scheduled to coincide with the LP release.

[News] Girls Announce New Single, More Tour Dates

On December 6th, San Francisco-based indie pop duo Girls will be releasing a brand new single titled "Lawrence." Depsite having released their second studio album Father, Son, Holy Ghost only two months ago, the duo will be dropping this non-album related single as a gift for Lawrence Hayward, the frontman for Felt, Denim, and Go Kart Mozart. The single will be released digitally as well as on limited, heart-shaped red vinyl via True Panther Sounds. Below, you can read Girls' frontman Christopher Owens' letter to Lawrence:
11.1.11
Dear Lawrence,
I wonder who will be writing me in twenty years, and what they’ll be looking for. Don’t worry, I’m not writing to talk about the things I’m looking for in life, I’ll spare you that. I’m writing to FINALLY be able to send you a song that I wrote in 2008. When I wrote this song I was the guitarist in a band called Holy Shit, Matt Fishbeck (our fearless leader) was the one who turned me on to Felt. I fell in love with your songs, I wouldn’t stop listening, I loved you and Maurice.
To make a long story a shorter story, I once wrote this song and wondered what you would sing to it, I could sometimes hear your voice but I didn’t dare write down any words. I never thought for a second you would ever hear it, I wondered if you would like it, all that. I called it Lawrence, after you. To send it to you now is incredible for me, I want to show you I’m thankful. You gave me something to love, or in other words you gave me love itself. You took something that can sometimes feel so common and dull and brought it back to life with so much beauty and verse. You gave me happiness, and you still do.
Anyway, I’d just like you to have it, it’s yours, take it as yours. Do anything you want with it. I hope you enjoy listening to it. And all the best to you forever and ever.
With love – Christopher Owens"
Along with the announced single, the duo have also announced a trio of winter tour dates in the U.S. The band will be hitting up Los Angeles and Santa Ana in December, and New York City in January. You can check out all of the duo's upcoming tour dates after the jump.
