[News] LCD Soundsystem Documentary Set to Debut at Sundance Film Festival

At next year's Sundance Film Festival, a documentary chronicling LCD Soundsystem's farewell show at Madison Square Garden will premiere. The documentary, titled SHUT UP AND PLAY THE HITS, was directed by Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace, and follows "LCD Soundsystem frontman James Murphy over a crucial 48-hour period, from the day of their final gig at Madison Square Garden to the morning after, the official end of one of the best live bands in the world."
As pointed out by Consequence of Sound, it's currently unclear whether the documentary is the concert film previously mentioned by James Murphy, who, on Facebook, stated: “oh–and quick thing on last show film… it’s taking a long time to edit. sorry. edit is happening in london, so it’s a lot of flying. takes a long time, and then it has to be graded (didn’t know any of this technical stuff before), distributed, etc. taking longer than i expected, so i’m sorry. it’s coming early next year.”
There's be no further information provided on the documentary, but stay tuned for future updates.

[News] 54th Annual Grammy Nomminations Announced

It's that time of year again where we all bicker and complain about how the Grammys are no longer relevant and that the music industry continues to be nothing but a big fat failure. That's right, kiddies: the 54th Annual Grammy nominations are in and the band bashing is already in full swing.
Leading the nominations this time around are Adele (shocker), Kanye West, Bruno Mars, Foo Fighters, Rihanna and Lady Gaga. The Electronica and Dance categories were relatively well represented with nods for Cut/Copy, David Guetta, Robyn, Duck Sauce, Deadmau5, Skrillex, and Swedish House Mafia.
Skrillex and Bon Iver were included in the noms for Best New Artist along with The Band Perry, J. Cole and Nicki Minaj, which seemed to rattle the internet quite a bit. It's a little random that Bon Iver is in this category considering they released their first album in 2008, but we will be happy for them all the same. Skrillex seems to come out of left field in this category, but I guess if Ryan Seacrest is excited for Skrillex then we really shouldn't be all that shocked. Kudos to him for getting electronica/dance music into more categories other than their own, though. Bon Iver also received a nomination for Record of the Year with "Helocene" alongside Mumford & Sons, Katy Perry, Adele, and Bruno Mars.
Butch Vig, Danger Mouse, The Lonely Island, The Black Keys, Foster The People, Radiohead, The Decemberists, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Kings of Leon, Wilco and many more were among the nominees tonight. Make sure you have a onceover on this years list of nominees and get ready to fire your tweets off with us on February 12, 2012 during the awards ceremony.
[News] Spotify To Add Apps: Including Last.fm, Rolling Stone, Lyrics, Other Third-Party Apps
In their quest for music world domination, music streaming service Spotify just announced that they will be integrating apps into the popular player soon. The service will kick off the apps launch with content partners such as Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, Last.fm, TuneWiki, and Songkick, with more on the way.
The apps will be customizable and will show up in the left bar of the player along with your playlists, local libraries, etc. This is a smart move for Spotify. Why waste time trying to integrate these kinds of features on your own when there are plenty of companies already killing it in these respective fields? Want suggestions from news sources you already know and trust? There's an app for that. Want to be able to read (or sing) along with the lyrics to a song? There's an app for that. Want to know when an artist is rolling through your town? Well, you guessed it. There's an app for that, too. These new features should be rolling out sometime this week and will be available to both free and premium accounts.
It will be interesting to see how services like Rdio, MOG, Pandora, etc. respond to this new feature. Either way it will be better for us music junkies in the long run to have these services fighting over us by upping their features and enlarging their music libraries.
