[News] John Peel's Record Collection Being Archived As Online Museum
Even though he sadly passed back in 2004, John Peel's legend lives on. Now it will continue to live on indefinitely as the legendary BBC presenters record collection is to be immortalised online. The BBC and the British Arts Council are working together to create something that they are calling The Space. It's set to be a digital music service that will include all of Peel's home studio and record collection along with Peel's own notes, and the legendary performances from the John Peel sessions. It's also said to include interviews with the artists John well and truly loved and championed. NME reports that it will include 25,000 LPs and 40,000 singles. I thin kit's safe to say we're all a long way off of that but now we can share in the great mans musical wealth.

[News] Metric Announces New LP 'Synthetica'

On June 12th, Canadian indie rockers Metric will return with their fifth studio album Synthetica, which will be released through the band's new label Metric Music International as well as through Mom + Pop Records. Work on the album began immediately following the band's final show in support of Fantasies, where the band returned to Giant Studios in Toronto. From there, the band concluded work on the album at New York's famed Electric Lady Studios, where production and mixing were helmed by the band's own Jimmy Shaw and John O'Mahoney, respectively.
Shaw describes the process as "he culmination of everything we've done. We've always had a sound in our heads that we hoped to realize. We finally heard it coming back out of the speakers this time." Emily Haines, the band's lead singer, went further to discuss the title of the album, where "Synthetica" serves as the name of a skin-job akin to Blade Runner's replicants: "If you imagine a nightmarishly fake version of me as a pop star, that's her. And this record was about me saying, I'm going to give more to the music than ever, but there's no way I'm going to turn into someone like that."
While the announcement came with no audio preview of the upcoming studio effort, expect more from the band in the coming months.

[News] S. Carey Announces New EP 'Hoyas'

Eau Claire musician S. Carey, who serves as the back-up vocalist and multi-instrumentalist for Bon Iver, is set to return with a new solo effort titled Hoyas. The four-track EP is set for release on May 8th via Jagjaguwar, and sees the artist collaborating with friend and A.A. Bondy member Ben Lester. According to a press release, the EP was recorded in an attic "using a single laptop and not much else… Some sounds were composed by handcrafted instruments and others by junk. At times, Carey tracked vocals using nothing more than his laptop’s internal microphone, and most of the beats and synthesized sounds were sequenced and arranged using stock-software," and, from there, was mixed by Bon Iver's Justin Vernon and Brian Joseph and mastered by Jeff Lipton at Peerless Studios in Boston.
For now, there is no audio sample from the album, so, instead, head here to watch S. Carey and Justin Vernon's amazing 25-minute 4AD studio session, and after the jump you can take a look at the EPs tracklisting.
