[Listen] Kenna - "Politics (prod. by RJD2)"

I don't know why Kenna has been sitting on this track for so long. No doubt that since Election Day here in the US is around the corner the timing is fitting, so I guess I'm staring at the answer write in the face. Either way, it could not have come at a better time for me, considering how rough this week has been for me and everyone in New York City.

"Politics", produced by RJD2 and featuring Joanna Levesque on backing vocals, is poised, powerful, and earnest. Through the muck of vapidity that has been slowly trying to devour the music industry, Kenna rises to the occasion and delivers a performance with the sophistication from his New Sacred Cow days. It speaks to all of us who are so burnt out on what politics and much of our society has become. As you carefully focus in on the actual words coming out of Kenna's mouth, it's hard not to agree with the majority of what he's saying (and I say majority only because I haven't spent days dissecting through the song at multiple levels). The delicate phrasing and tenderness in his voice for this track and throughout the rest of his catalog are where Kenna shines the brigthest. Having said all of that, RDJ2's contribution to this is equally as important to the equation. Despite the obvious minor synthetic tweaks, the overall feel of the song is very warm and organic. This song leaves me daydreaming of what a whole album with this kind of approach would sound like. Maybe not necessarily all at this subdued state, but you know what? You definitely wouldn't hear me complaining.

Land To Air Chronicles II: Imitation Is Suicide, the second of the three part EP series is due out at the end of this month (November). After hearing this song, saying that I'm incredibly anxious for it to drop would be an understatement.

[Listen] Earl Sweatshirt - "Chum"

Odd Future's young gun Earl Sweatshirt has been pretty quiet in recent months but late last night he took to twitter and dropped a brand new track titled "Chum". In the track he raps over a looped piano riff and tells a story of drinking too much too young, his Dad, and wanting to quit what he's come home to after being sent away from home and the strain it's put on his already tarnished relationship with his Mum. Personal and a little different. Check it out below via Soundcloud.

[Listen] Atoms For Peace - "What The Eyeballs Did"

I just gazed down at the calendar to check the date and it's bloody November. NOVEMBER! I need some kind of mechanism to stop time intermittently to get things done. It'll be new years eve before I know it. With that being said, November means that Thom Yorke's other project Atoms For Peace are close to releasing their single "Default", November 19th to be precise. With the single comes this dance inducing B-Side called "What The Eyeballs Did".

It's going to be released via XL Recordings, you can pre-order it here after you take a listen to it below courtesy of SPIN.

[Watch] David Byrne & St. Vincent on The Colbert Report

Last night the wonderful David Byrne and St. Vincent were guests on The Colbert Report and not only perform a track but sit down and have a chat with Stephen. The duo performed a lively rendition of "Who" and sat down to have a typically jovial conversation about a number of topics including the recent events and Sandy. There's also talk of a three way shower session and a webcam being involved? I'm pretty sure boys around the world would rejoice at Annie in th.... enough of that. It's a Friday, let's celebrate, catch the interview at the top and the performance below courtesy of The Audio Perv.

[Watch] Check Out the Trailer for Kanye West's 'Cruel Winter' Short Film

Following the release of the so-so Cruel Summer, members of G.O.O.D. Music have been hinting at a possible follow-up titled, wait for it, Cruel Winter! Sarcasm aside, Kanye West plans to make an accompanying documentary also entitled Cruel Winter, and the trailer for the short film hit the web today. The film will be directed by Austin Christianson and features some biocentric visuals—just think lots and lots of trees. Watch the trailer above (via Hypetrak).

UPDATE: The trailer has been confirmed as being unaffiliated with Kanye West or G.O.O.D. Music, as Austin Christianson, the director of the short clip, said to Forbes: "Without getting into many details, I will say that the trailer was independently made and the video is essentially a concept trailer... It's used for pitching an idea and/or concept to a client." It seems Christianson just wanted to get Kanye's attention, and I'm sure it worked. More details to come.

[Listen] Mesita - "XYXY"

Hidden Colorado gem Mesita, a personal favorite of mine, drops his first new track since his April LP The Coyote, the diverse jazz-laden "XYXY". The song is described by Mesita as exploring "the delusions that come from growing up closeted, and all the mental struggles that come along with it", and he surrounds this with sprawling instrumentation that deserves your constant attention. Stream it below or above alongside its very flashy (epilepsy warning) accompanying video.

Mesita also plans to release a new LP early next year, an album with "loud bass synths, strings, keys and grit beats" titled Future Proof.

[Watch] Free Energy - "Electric Fever" (Official Video)

In their video for "Electric Fever", Philly rockers Free Energy get all kinds of messy in what looks like a PG version of Dexter Morgan's kill room. Being barraged with paint, water, glitter, and more, the band keeps on rocking despite the interruptions. Catch the replay above.

Free Energy's sophomore LP Lovesign is out on January 15th through Free People.
