[Watch] Biffy Clyro - "Stingin' Belle" Live on Jools Holland
A firm favourite of mine in a live setting last night had the job of closing out the midweek airing of Later... with Jools Holland. Those Scottish rockers Biffy Clyro took to the stage and performed a roaring rendition of their recent single "Stingin' Belle" for the masses at home.
If you missed their new single "Back Chandelier" earlier in the week jump over here to check it out.
[Watch] Tame Impala - "Elephant" Live on Jools Holland
Another week rolls by and another Tuesday broadcast of Later... with Jools Holland hits BBC 2. This week the musical guests included Sinéad O'Connor, Courtney Pine, Lau, Biffy Clyro and the performance you can watch at the top from the psych-rockers Tame Impala. They perform a highlight from their release Lonerism in the shape of "Elephant". If you missed it last night or just want to enjoy it again hit play above.
[Watch] Sigur Rós – "Varúð" (Official Video)
Sigur Rós have put forth the second-to-last video from their six-month-long "Valtari Mystery Film Experiment", yet another take on the beautifully chilling "Varúð". Directed by Björn Flóki, the video tells the tale of a young girl living in a post-apocalyptic world as she dreams about the flawless beauty and dazzling wonder of nature. This fits perfectly with what Flóki wanted to express: "When I listen to “Varúð” I feel this overlap and struggle between sadness and beauty, between darkness and light. An overwhelming feeling of being buried in darkness but being just barely able to escape into the light, if you try hard enough. This is the feeling I’ve tried to bring to the video." Watch it above.
Head here to watch all of the contributions to the "Valtari Mystery Film Experiment", including the overall winner of the competition, "Fjögur píanó", and the people's choice winner, "Dauðalogn".
[Watch] Florence & The Machine - "Lover to Lover" (Video)
Florence & The Machine haven't slowed down since releasing their sophomore album Ceremonials just over a year ago. Fitting then that Florence Welch admitted to needing a long overdue break when speaking to London's Evening Standard: "I’ve been on tour since I was 21. I need a break and to have the chance to do normal things, like go to the supermarket and hang out with my friends." Also fitting is the band's new video for the Ceremonials track "Lover to Lover", which focuses on the distressed relationship between Welch and actor Ben Mendelsohn.
Directed by Vincent Haycock, the troubled love story of Welch and Mendelsohn is wrapped up in flourishing visuals and well placed shots, including the redhead songstress taking a dive into an early morning ocean wave. Check out the video above (via NOWNESS).
[Watch] Alt-J - "Tessellate" Live at Electric Lady Studios
I've made my feeling about Alt-J pretty clear over the past few months and it's always a pleasure to see them in a live setting. This session recorded at Electric Lady Studios in NYC was laid down for The Wild Honey Pie and above you can see the end result; A brilliant version of the An Awesome Wave featuring "Tessellate". Check out the hair raising performance at the top and be sure to pick up a copy of the Mercury Prize winning album if you haven't already.
[Watch] Cloud Nothings - "Stay Useless" (Live Take Away Show)
Yesterday we got to enjoy Jessie Ware performing a delightful Take Away show in Paris for Pitchfork and La Blogothèque. Today we get to enjoy Cloud Nothings performing the Attack on Memory featuring track"Stay Useless" inside an abandoned bus. Again it was recorded during Pitchfork Music Festival Paris at the start of November.
[Watch] Ellie Goulding - "Figure 8" (Official Video)
Following the release of her new album, Halcyon, Ellie Goulding has been promoting the hell out of it. We got to enjoy the "Anything Can Happen" video back in September, followed by a few late night TV performances and now we get the visual for single two, "Figure 8". The video sees her using some White Stripe like colours to portray her feelings of missing an ex. I mention the White Stripes but black, white and red were around long before them! I know that but I grew up with their aesthetic and their videos were on TV a lot so it always casts me back to them. See if it does the same for you above.
Halcyon is out now and you can pick up a copy here.
[Watch] JAWS - "Stay In" (Official Video)
Not too long ago we introduced you to a Birmingham band called JAWS through their song "Surround You" and today we get the video fro the other track from the double a-side titled "Stay In". The video was filmed in a garage somewhere in the "town of B" and is a fish-eye lens trip through the darkness of the small room. Check it out at the top and look out for the tracks when they're released on the 3rd of December via Rattlepop. You can pre-order it here.
