[Watch] Flying Lotus - "Tiny Tortures" (Video)
It's Flying Lotus day today, as he steps away from the cartoonish rap stylings of his Captain Murphy moniker to drop a video for the song "Tiny Tortures". The song, which was featured on this year's Until the Quiet Comes, is a trippy-yet-subtle soundscape, and that translates perfectly to the visual medium. Starring Elijah Wood, the video is described as a "cinematic portrait of the transformative nature of Flying Lotus, who collides the real and the surreal through kinetic soundscapes". Surreal is an understatement. Check it out above.
Enduring the acid-tinged hallucinations of the digital-age, this slow-motion trip explores the relationship between humans and machines. As objects move and float, we enter a visual dream world – the culmination of Flying Lotus’ vivid songwriting and Lenandowsky’s surreal aesthetic."
[Watch] Tanlines - "Not The Same" (Video)
New York genre benders Tanlines expand beyond their usual two-piece ensemble to fourteen in the video for Mixed Emotions standout "Not The Same". The incredible layered sounds that comprise their music are highlighted as Jesse Cohen and Eric Emm are replicated over and over as the numerous instruments and melodies are added. The broad musical talents of the duo are met with equally amazing clothing unique to each addition. Check out the expansive pair in the player above.
In more Tanlines related news, the duo will be performing on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on December 6th, their late-night debut.
[Listen] The Weeknd Live at Maida Vale Studios
As I mentioned yesterday in a post regarding The Weeknd's performance on Later... with Jools Holland, Abel would have a performance aired on Zane Lowe's evening show on Radio One. The session was recorded earlier in the week at the legendary Maida Vale studios and he laid down four tracks; "Wicked Games," "The Zone," "The Knowing" and "Montreal". Check out the crooner's live chops once again for the second time in as many days courtesy CoS.
Trilogy is out now.
[Listen] Rudimental - "Hell Could Freeze" Feat. Angel Haze
London DJ collective Rudimental have teamed up with the lady of he moment, Angel Haze, to release a collaboration which is a little bit different to what you might of expected from them both. The drum beats set the tone for the song and Angel Haze's vocal soars on the track before she breaks down into her speedy verses. The machine gun flow and big bass sound sits side by side so, so well. Check it out below.
[Watch] Cancer Bats - "Bricks and Mortar" (Official Video)
Cancer Bats' album Dead Set On Living has been the soundtrack to a lot of my early morning workouts since it dropped back in April. The Canadian band have now offered up a tongue in cheek video for their track "Bricks and Mortar" which sees them messing around and being all OTT rap video like in their native Toronto. It's a highly entertaining video and the song is a highlight from the album so hit play above and have a laugh whilst getting your rock on.
[Watch] Palma Violets - "Best of Friends" Live on Jools Holland
We introduced you to Palma Violets back in August via their highly infectious single "Best of Friends" and they've gone from strength to strength. With that in mind, last night they were one of the guests on Later... with Jools Holland and performed that aforementioned catchy track and they put in a stellar performance. It was energetic and attention grabbing from start to finish.
The band also announced yesterday that their debut album is set for release on February the 25th next year and they're recording it with Pulp's Steve Mackey. Watch this space.
[Watch] The Weeknd - "Wicked Games" Live on Jools Holland
It's been a solid line-up of guests this season for Later... with Jools Holland and last night's mid-week broadcast didn't disappoint either. British viewers got to enjoy the sensual vocals of The Weeknd who performed his track "Wicked Games" which featured on the recently released Trilogy. Rewatch the magic up at the top.
Tonight on Radio One, Zane Lowe will be playing back a live session from Abel too that was recorded earlier in the week and the legendary Maida Vale studios so look out for that tomorrow too.
[Watch] How to destroy angels_ - "Ice Age" (Official Video)
How to destroy angels_ have let loose their video accompaniment for "Ice Age" which featured on their EP, An omen_. Directed by the talented John Hillcoat the video is a dark and eerie. It sees Mariqueen Maandig singing along with Trent in the background on keys. She's staring longingly into the ocean as if she's looking for something but what... It's a beautifully shot visual clocking in at just over 7 minutes long. Take the time from your day, have a break, put your feet up, and enjoy.
A full length effort is expected early next year.
