[Listen] SEØUEL -"Subtle"

Feast your ears on the aptly titled track "Subtle", which is the latest from London-based Scottish producer SEØUEL. The tune comes from his forthcoming EP Reykjavik, which is due on July 24th courtesy of Disorder Recordings. As the EP name would suggest, the EP was inspired by sights and sounds of Iceland's capital. The EP is a followup to last year's EP, Prague (which you can stream tracks from over on Soundcloud), so clearly we are getting a feel for the mysterious beatmaker's ability to absorb the world around him and create on the go.

Gotta say, it's impressive how transformative he is from EP to EP and track to track. It's very easy to get lost in a trippy electronic record, but in the case of Reykavik SEØUEL takes you on a journey through the icy dark countryside of one of Europe's most isolated and dramatic countries all the while keeping your full attention throughout the experience.

Once you've enjoyed "Subtle" below, be sure to dig through his Soundcloud for more dark delectable delights.

[Watch] Phases - "I'm In Love With My Life" (Official Video)

I am a sucker for electro-pop so it's no shocker here that I took to LA quartet Phases baaaasically immediately. This was especially the case with their track, "I'm In Love With My Life", which is one of three that the band have unveiled from their forthcoming album. Honestly, if you're not in love with your life after the first spin of this tune, then maybe you need to book an intense partying session with Andrew WK to work through your issues. Seriously (well, sort of anyway). It's as bright and bubblegumtastic as it is infectious. At any rate, if anyone from the foursome looks familiar to you at all that's because peppered amongst the lineup are former members of Rilo Kiley, Phantom Planet, and The Like. You may have also known them in their former incarnation as JJAMZ.

I am heartbroken to say that I won't be able to make it out next Tuesday (7/21) to their show at The Studio at Webster Hall. If I could clone myself so I could be there AND at Prospect Park Bandshell for Interpol with Sprout I would be all over this. If you're in the NYC area you should definitely come out.  If you're not in the greater NYC area, the band is on the road in North America through mid-August, so head over to their website and see if they're coming soon to a town near you.

You should check out their other two tracks as well: "Betty Blue" and "Cooler".

[Watch] Breton - "Titan" (Official Music Video)

Ugh, Breton is on FIRE this year. I've barely been able to keep up with all the happenings and goings on with these guys, which is a fantastic problem to have if I'm honest. Since releasing their sophomore LP, War Room Stories the four-piece has basically been full throttle nonstop in the form of extensive touring just about everywhere as well as putting together some bonus goodies to go on their upcoming re-release of the now highly acclaimed release, which drops on November 10th. I've already expressed all my feels about the addictive little dance pop track, "Titan", but now the tune has a video to go with it and boy it is a stunner.
Way back before their debut album, Other People's Problems, dropped, I chatted with singer Roman Rappak about how the band likes to speak in multiple languages when it comes to their art, which obviously has always included video. I have to admit that prior to peeping the video below that the danciness of the tune sort of distracted me a bit from the subject matter. The video does an excellent job of reshifting the focus.
Fun fact about this video: it was shot a mere 15 minute walk outside of the bands old stomping grounds, Breton Labs aka the abandoned bank that the group had been living and creating in. (h/t to Noisey for that bit of info they got from Roman)
Watch every last second of "Titan" below.

[Watch] Jose Gonzalez - "Every Age" (Official Music Video)

It has been 7 years since Jose Gonzalez released his sophomore LP, In Our Nature. I remember the day it came out all too well because I was actually working at Mute at the time and everyone was so excited to see how far the record would take him. Gotta say, it took him pretty far. While I've thoroughly enjoyed his contribution to society in the form of Junip over the past few years, I am so so so so so so so so so happy that he has returned to us all on his own.

Earlier today the video for his first single, "Every Age" was unveiled. It's more of an experience, actually. If you head over to Eyes in Space you can enjoy the view of a drone slowly lifting of to SPACE(!!!), which is almost as beautiful as the song itself. Almost. That's saying a lot considering the breathtaking 360° view that the video provides. Bonus: if you're one of those lucky gadget heads out there with a VR headset, you can have an even more awesome experience with the video than I did.

His upcoming album, Vestiges & Claws drops on February 17th, 2015 on Mute.

P.S. you can check out the non-360° version of "Every Age" below.

[Listen] Dillon Francis - 'Money Sucks, Friends Rule' (Full Album Stream)

NEW.

MUSIC.

TUESDAY.

NEW.

DILLON.

FRANICS (a week early!)!

I am a very happy Kibbe today, let me tell you! I have been waiting for this album since the first time I heard "When We Were Young" a few months ago. MTV got the hookup on a full album stream a week before the album officially drops next week (October 29th) courtesy of Columbia Records/Mad Decent. I'm only two songs in at the moment and already I'm very upset that I am confined to my desk at work instead of blasting this in Kibbtopia and dancing around like a crazy person.

Have a listen to Money Sucks, Friends Rule below. Be sure to pre-order the album on iTunes here if you haven't already because that is the right thing to do. I personally will probably pony up for the deluxe version, but I will be waiting on that until after the dust settles on the damage I do at CMJ this week (more on that later btw!).

Be sure to catch Dillon Franics on his 'Friend Rule' tour next month starting in Nashville!

[Listen] Breton - "Titan"

I'm calling it right now: Breton's third album will be their breakthrough in the states. This is not up for debate. It's going to happen and I am so excited about this I feel like having sex with a drum machine
I'd love to be wrong about that and have it be sooner though, specifically since they announced that they'll be re-issuing War Room Stories  on November 10th on their very own label Cut Tooth (via Believe Recordings). The reissue will include two brand new songs, "Titan" and "Parthian Shot", along with 9 bonus tracks, previously unseen tour pictures and a PDF of all the band’s lyrics to date.
Earlier this week the band shared "Titan" for your listening pleasure in anticipation of the reissue. Remember when I was super excited about "Got Well Soon" and said it was the best thing they had ever made? I think I still stand by that for now, but in the case of "Titan" there's this new found approachability in this song that was previously only found in little snippets throughout their work, which is why I'm convinced that they're on the path to worldwide domination. Keep in mind that War Room Stories only came out in February and already we're seeing a massive growth spurt from the band in this track. Granted, I'm sure that some credit should go to Antoine Gaillet (co-wrote  M83's Before the Dawn Heals Us, mixed on Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming), who co-produced the song. Even so, the band has matured at such a rapid pace since their 2011 debut album, Other People's Problem that it's almost hard for me to believe that it's even the same band.

Either way, it's basically all that Sprout and I have been listening to all morning and there has been much chair dancing at our desks as a result. Have a listen to "Titan" for yourself and tell me that your hips don't involuntarily shake even a little bit the second it hits your ears.
Lucky folks across the pond can catch the band on tour next month. Make the best decision of your life and catch them if they're playing in your area.

[Watch] Don Diablo - "Back To Life" (Official Video)

Yesterday my ongoing DJ/producer obsession Don Diablo debuted the video for his latest single, "Back To Life" and it is nothing short of adorable. The video takes place in the year 2068 where we find Don Diablo with a thicker, wrinklier, and well worn face staring down at his old clothes that he used to perform in. As any good story from the future goes, he has decided to do one more performance for old times sake so puts on his old clothes, crawls into a limo with his futuristic iPad that projects hologram looking things, and heads to a club that is anxious to receive him. You then follow along with old man Diablo as he nervously awaits to go on. Old man Steve Aoki also makes a brief appearance in the video. I know 54 years is a long time from now, but my gut tells me that based on how pristine Diablo's skin is now that the man is going to age like a fine wine.

I'll say this, if he continues to put out bangers like the past few tracks he's dropped in the past year, I most certainly look forward to growing old with Don Diablo.
"Back To Life" officially drops next week on October 20th via Spinnin Records. You can stream it incessantly sans video below.

[Listen] Don Diablo - "Back To Life"

Ol' Donnie boy has dropped yet another banger folks! Pretty sure he's unstoppable at this point. Earlier today, Dutch producer Don Diablo unveiled, "Back To Life", which is full of high pitch vocals, snazzy synths, and bass that only a rock mama could wubwubwub (see what I did there?). The track officially drops on October 20th on Spinnin Records, so you can wear out the stream below for the time being.
US Don Diablo fans! The man himself is playing a few select dates this month so if you're in the area make sure you do whatcha gotta do to get out and see him. Even though I'll actually be in Philly this weekend I will unfortunately be unable to catch him at Soundgarden on Saturday night. I am hoping to bump into him around town tho in hopes of getting the scoop on his secrets to acheiving insanely flawless skin. My guess: babies blood. Or genetics. Whatever.
