[Listen] SEØUEL -"Subtle"
Feast your ears on the aptly titled track "Subtle", which is the latest from London-based Scottish producer SEØUEL. The tune comes from his forthcoming EP Reykjavik, which is due on July 24th courtesy of Disorder Recordings. As the EP name would suggest, the EP was inspired by sights and sounds of Iceland's capital. The EP is a followup to last year's EP, Prague (which you can stream tracks from over on Soundcloud), so clearly we are getting a feel for the mysterious beatmaker's ability to absorb the world around him and create on the go.
Gotta say, it's impressive how transformative he is from EP to EP and track to track. It's very easy to get lost in a trippy electronic record, but in the case of Reykavik SEØUEL takes you on a journey through the icy dark countryside of one of Europe's most isolated and dramatic countries all the while keeping your full attention throughout the experience.
Once you've enjoyed "Subtle" below, be sure to dig through his Soundcloud for more dark delectable delights.
[Watch] Phases - "I'm In Love With My Life" (Official Video)
I am a sucker for electro-pop so it's no shocker here that I took to LA quartet Phases baaaasically immediately. This was especially the case with their track, "I'm In Love With My Life", which is one of three that the band have unveiled from their forthcoming album. Honestly, if you're not in love with your life after the first spin of this tune, then maybe you need to book an intense partying session with Andrew WK to work through your issues. Seriously (well, sort of anyway). It's as bright and bubblegumtastic as it is infectious. At any rate, if anyone from the foursome looks familiar to you at all that's because peppered amongst the lineup are former members of Rilo Kiley, Phantom Planet, and The Like. You may have also known them in their former incarnation as JJAMZ.
I am heartbroken to say that I won't be able to make it out next Tuesday (7/21) to their show at The Studio at Webster Hall. If I could clone myself so I could be there AND at Prospect Park Bandshell for Interpol with Sprout I would be all over this. If you're in the NYC area you should definitely come out. If you're not in the greater NYC area, the band is on the road in North America through mid-August, so head over to their website and see if they're coming soon to a town near you.
You should check out their other two tracks as well: "Betty Blue" and "Cooler".

[Watch] Jose Gonzalez - "Every Age" (Official Music Video)
It has been 7 years since Jose Gonzalez released his sophomore LP, In Our Nature. I remember the day it came out all too well because I was actually working at Mute at the time and everyone was so excited to see how far the record would take him. Gotta say, it took him pretty far. While I've thoroughly enjoyed his contribution to society in the form of Junip over the past few years, I am so so so so so so so so so happy that he has returned to us all on his own.
Earlier today the video for his first single, "Every Age" was unveiled. It's more of an experience, actually. If you head over to Eyes in Space you can enjoy the view of a drone slowly lifting of to SPACE(!!!), which is almost as beautiful as the song itself. Almost. That's saying a lot considering the breathtaking 360° view that the video provides. Bonus: if you're one of those lucky gadget heads out there with a VR headset, you can have an even more awesome experience with the video than I did.
His upcoming album, Vestiges & Claws drops on February 17th, 2015 on Mute.
P.S. you can check out the non-360° version of "Every Age" below.
[Listen] Dillon Francis - 'Money Sucks, Friends Rule' (Full Album Stream)
NEW.
MUSIC.
TUESDAY.
NEW.
DILLON.
FRANICS (a week early!)!
I am a very happy Kibbe today, let me tell you! I have been waiting for this album since the first time I heard "When We Were Young" a few months ago. MTV got the hookup on a full album stream a week before the album officially drops next week (October 29th) courtesy of Columbia Records/Mad Decent. I'm only two songs in at the moment and already I'm very upset that I am confined to my desk at work instead of blasting this in Kibbtopia and dancing around like a crazy person.
Have a listen to Money Sucks, Friends Rule below. Be sure to pre-order the album on iTunes here if you haven't already because that is the right thing to do. I personally will probably pony up for the deluxe version, but I will be waiting on that until after the dust settles on the damage I do at CMJ this week (more on that later btw!).
Be sure to catch Dillon Franics on his 'Friend Rule' tour next month starting in Nashville!

[Listen] Breton - "Titan"

Either way, it's basically all that Sprout and I have been listening to all morning and there has been much chair dancing at our desks as a result. Have a listen to "Titan" for yourself and tell me that your hips don't involuntarily shake even a little bit the second it hits your ears.

[Watch] Don Diablo - "Back To Life" (Official Video)
Yesterday my ongoing DJ/producer obsession Don Diablo debuted the video for his latest single, "Back To Life" and it is nothing short of adorable. The video takes place in the year 2068 where we find Don Diablo with a thicker, wrinklier, and well worn face staring down at his old clothes that he used to perform in. As any good story from the future goes, he has decided to do one more performance for old times sake so puts on his old clothes, crawls into a limo with his futuristic iPad that projects hologram looking things, and heads to a club that is anxious to receive him. You then follow along with old man Diablo as he nervously awaits to go on. Old man Steve Aoki also makes a brief appearance in the video. I know 54 years is a long time from now, but my gut tells me that based on how pristine Diablo's skin is now that the man is going to age like a fine wine.
