I can't stop posting all of these fun Christmas songs! It's like a sickness! Today's holiday tune comes from How Do You Do crooner Mayer Hawthorne with his ultra smooth take on "Christmas Time Is Here". Hearing this makes me picture what it would be like if Hawthorne had a holiday special of his very own, but way more awesome than Michael Buble's. Do we think Snoop Dogg would make an appearance? Somehow I can't get the image of sexy ladies in Santa suits firing red and green guns at each other over a present a la "The Walk" video.
Our next nugget of holiday cheer comes from Josh T. Pearson with his slowed down rendition of "O Holy Night", which was recorded live to tape by Grammy winning Liam Watson at the legendary ToeRag Studios in Hackney, East London one dark October afternoon. Pearson also recently recorded a new Mute Studio Session of "Driver Her Out", from his latest album Last Of The Country Gentlemen. You can check out that session, along with his sessions of "Woman When I've Raised Hell" and "Sorry With A Song" over on his YouTube page.
We have another holiday treat for you from Vancouver-based artist Joshua Hyslop. After dropping his latest EP, Cold Wind, Hyslop went back into the studio to lay down his heart warming rendition of, "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas", which you can grab over on iTunes.
British duo Slow Club has you covered for the holidays as they gear up for their annual Christmas show at Union Chapel. Straight from last year's holiday themed EP Christmas, Thanks For Nothing (which you can grab on iTunes) you can enjoy their rendition of "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)". Turn up this jam, grab your mistletoe and start the countdown until Christmas break!
I know Shey has already gotten into the holiday spirit but I told myself that I'd wait until it was officially December, but thankfully November zipped on by and look where we are already! To kick off the Christmas season we have a new take on the Wham! 1984 classic "Last Christmas" from Minneapolis band Peter Wolf Crier. Of all the renditions that I've heard of this song, I have to give the guys props for creating a version that feels more serious than the rest.
Give the gift of Peter Wolf Crier in the form of their latest album Garden of Arms.
Many thanks to A.V. Club for having the guys in for this performance!
You guys better be constantly chewing on candy canes and be covered in tinsel by now, because we are quickly approaching Christmas! I don't know about you, but I am loving how many artists are spreading the holiday cheer this year (even if some of them may be doing it JUST for marketing purposes only). Here we have Richard Hawley, Jarvis Cocker and Lisa Hannigan performing the Christmas classic, "Silent Night". Loving every moment of it.
The Heypenny crew got together to record this more upbeat version of the popular Christmas tune, "What Child Is This?". It's so nice to see everyone getting in the Christmas spirit!
What's your favorite Christmas song?
