[SONG OF THE DAY] Snow Culture - "Paris"
Yesterday Swedish duo Snow Culture just dropped their debut release, EP1, which features the dreamy track, "Paris". The band just played two sold out shows this week, opening for BøRNS in New York and Sinead Harnett in Los Angeles (and somehow I managed to miss both ugh). For you Riverdale fans, you probably heard their track, "No Sleep", not too long ago.
[SONG OF THE DAY] Mike Irish - "A Grain Of Salt"
I love when The Algorithm throws me a little nugget of baby band goodness. This particular project is extra intriguing to me because from the looks of things dude could be making more traction if he had help promoting it. Brooklyn based producer Mike Irish has put together a promising EP called The Joy Of Motion, featuring the catchy opening track, "A Grain Of Salt".
So yeah, not a whole lot else to say about him because it looks like there's literally nothing else out there about him. I promise I wasn't being a creepy stalker when I stumbled across his personal Facebook page since it appears he doesn't have an artist page, so maybe I'll hit him up and see what his deal is.
[SONG OF THE DAY] San Scout - "You Instead"
When last we met our friends in San Scout I was attempting to troll them on their flip phone as part of their promotion for "In/Balance".
Today I have good news and bad news, friends of the internet.
The bad news is the London duo has since misplaced their flip phone. :(
The good news is we have a new song and more music on the way! The guys have been tucked away in an old factory carefully crafting new jams for us, which I imagine will be rolling out over the next few months.
"You Instead" is a wistful slow jam featuring their signature breathtakingly brooding vocals that I'm now struggling to determine who among the two that comes out of now that I'm looking at this press photo again. Anyway, I'm looking forward to hearing more from these guys soon.
[SONG OF THE DAY] starRo - "Harajuku Affair"
Multi-instrumentalist has quite the run in the past two years. After quitting his day job and spending 6 months being an Uber driver until he could fully support himself from making music, Tokyo-born starRo woke up with a Grammy nomination this past awards season for his work remixing a Flaming Lips song performed by The Silver Lake Chorus.
His new track, "Harajuku Affair", is the perfect lazy Sunday vibe.
[SONG OF THE DAY] Lye Marlow - "Headlights'
Lye Marlow is a passion project for songwriter/producer Clare Moses. The name is inspired by the character Charlie Marlow from Joseph Conrad’s novel “Heart Of Darkness”, who tells a lie in order to preserve - or rather fabricate an important sense of honor and romance where it never existed. It represents fantasy as something that is both necessary and dangerous. Lye is also a deadly chemical that is used to make soap, and the mythology of the name speaks to that idea - that sometimes what appears to cleanse can also poison.
Her new track, "Headlights" was written when Moses was allowing someone else's behavior to make her feel like she wasn't enough. She notes, "The song is about challenging that inclination and asserting that anyone who doesn't see your light is missing the point. It's an anthem of self-empowerment, and a stance against anyone who would denigrate your character under the glare of their assumptions."
[SONG OF THE DAY] Fischerspooner (feat. Caroline Polachek) - "Togetherness"
When last we met, Fischerspooner was reportedly dropping SIR on September 22nd. It would appear that they felt like they needed more time to roll this record out, unfortunately. That said, if the rest of the record continues to be as uncontrollably hot as "Have Fun Tonight" and today's song of the day, "Togetherness", then obviously it's going to be worth waiting until February 16th now.
If you haven't seen the video yet and are into perfectly sculpted bodies then it is an absolutely must see. Also really into Caroline Polachek's addition to the track. Very nice touch.
NYC fam PLEASE go to Brooklyn Steel tonight because I ran off on tour and cannot. I am trying not to punch myself in the face for missing their first NYC show in like 10 fucking years. Go go go. Please go. Oh my god please go.
[SONG OF THE DAY] Tourist (feat. Ardyn) - "We Stayed Up All Night"
This time tomorrow there will be a fresh EP, Wash, from UK producer and composer Tourist. My current favorite track on said EP is the hypnotic, "We Stayed Out All Night" featuring Ardyn on vocals. Last month he released a collection of remixes for the song that are worth checking out. Just recently he wrapped a string of US tour dates supporting Bonobo and Bob Moses, his first shows in the states since his set at Coachella earlier this year. He's got a string of dates coming up in the UK and Australia in November and January, so keep an eye out for those.

[SONG OF THE DAY] Autobahn - "Execution/Rise"
We're a little over a week out from the release of Autobahn's sophomore album, The Moral Crossing. In the meantime, the band shared a new track last week called, "Execution/Rise", a song which, as singer Craig Johnson put it, "is a reference to being punished for one’s sins, but rising again!"
The Leeds quintet will be heading out on the road in support of their new album, which is available for pre-order on limited edition white vinyl, so be sure to grab that while you still can.
