[SONG OF THE DAY] Oscar Scheller - "1% (feat. Lily Allen)"

It’s been a little over 3 years since I was fortunate enough to catch London songwriter Oscar Scheller at Baby’s All Right. He was just celebrating the release of his debut full-length, Cut & Paste, which featured cuts like, “Daffodil Days”, “Sometimes”, and “Breaking My Phone”, which I still reach for to this day. He’s been gradually rolling out singles over the course of the past year and from the looks of it my dude has been doing hella networking when he’s not crafting really fun future-forward pop productions. I’m struggling to think of a single UK artist that I’ve come in contact with in recent memory who *isn’t* a mutual follow of Oscar’s on Instagram. His first track back on the scene was with Sarah from Kero Kero Bonito, which got a solid remix from the Husky hunnies. It’s been more of the same since. It seems like the sky’s the limit in terms of who he could be working with next and this is no exaggeration.

His latest single, “1%”, is a collaboration with none other than Sheezus herself. The song is a call and response between the two who are trying to settle a dispute of a romantic nature via text, with the catch here being that Oscar’s phone is about to die because the battery is at 1%. As a person who gets stressed out when people post screenshots with the battery % in the 30s, I can only imagine the level of urgency of trying to diffuse a disagreement as that low battery sound (shudder) chimes in. Also the casual mention of the notorious "read receipt”, that depending on the situation can be a blessing or a curse, furthers the snapshot of anxiety involved with having a fight over text.

The track comes from his forthcoming sophomore full-length, HTTP404, which is slated for release on September 6th. The album further showcases his networking abilities as it includes a slew of stellar features, just have a glance at the tracklisting below and you’ll see what I mean.

If you’re fortunate enough to be on the other side of the pond, please live your best life and get to Omeara on Friday (7/12). The homey has a lineup of friends coming to perform with him so it’s sure to be a great night of music.

[SONG OF THE DAY] Lily Allen - "Lost My Mind"

The countdown 'til the best day of 2018 aka the day that Lily Allen's fourth studio album No Shame drops is currently at a mere 6 days. For some reason that feels like an eternity, but fortunately the benevolent Sheezus blessed us with "Lost My Mind" to hold us over.

I will forever be grateful for Lily's willingness to be so vulnerable when she writes. Her lyrics are always so damn relatable and when coupled with her angelic airy vocals I always end up feeling like we're both going to make it out on the other side.

The most wonderful woman will be performing at select festivals over the summer before embarking on a lengthy US tour.

Oh! If you head over to her Instagram she's gradually rolling out snippets of all the songs on the record, which as I excitedly squealed loudly enough that my roommates made fun of me, is "SO EXCITING!"

happy weekend! sorry this is late but rosé happened last night.

#skoaradio 10/31/2015 liner notes

When a new song comes out of nowhere and suddenly becomes your favorite.

Happy Halloween broadband buds!
Gotta say, the jams in this week's #skoaradio are so good it's SCARY! hahahaha oh boy am I bad at #relevantcontent sometimes but WE'RE HERE TO TALK MUSIC ANYWAYS SO WHATEVER. I dug up some spooktacular new tunes this week from Sinden, The 1975, Jamie Woon, MALAA, and more so it's a pretty damn good mixtape if I do say so myself. Lots of new music out this week so I hope you weren't planning on buying your family any expensive Christmas gifts because you're about to exceed your budget on music for the zillionth time.

Don't forget you can grab the Spotify playlist at the bottom of this post so you can treasure the order I painstakingly put these songs in. Or you can hit shuffle. Whatever.

Until next week!

Typing up all the show notes this week for once because I love you, fam.

YES! I'M ACTUALLY DOING SHOW NOTES FOR THIS WEEK! #sorrynotsorry but like I said in this week's episode I've been dealing with a bit of blogger burnout and even though doing the show is very therapeutic for me when you see how thorough I intend to be moving forward you will understand why I put this off for as long as I could. Again, I really appreciate those of you who listen and never get the promised show notes. NO MORE BROKEN PROMISES! Just quality #content in addition to a bunch of other new things in the works right now.

Hope you enjoyed this weeks show! Feel free to drop a comment here or hit me up on Twitter. I'd love to hear what you thought of this week's picks!

Until next week!

BONUS JUST FOR YOU FAM! I'm also making playlists on Spotify for every single show. NO SHUFFLE THO BECAUSE THAT'S CHEATING! Additionally, as the shows become available on iTunes I will update each post with a link to the show for your listening pleasure. Enjoy!

[Watch] Lily Allen - "Air Balloon" (Official Video)
I sat on writing this up until the official video came out for Lily Allen's latest single, "Air Balloon", because I was hoping it was going to provide some context, but can anyone out there please explain to me what the actual hell is going on here? Don't get me wrong, the song is insanely catchy, but in terms of depth, this couldn't be more of a polar opposite from her first single, "Hard Out Here". I love absolutely everything about this song until you actually pay attention to what she's singing about. One fo the things I've always appreciated about Allen's music was how quickly one is able to get on board with her. She's typically very straightfoward with what she has to say. However, when I receive the urge to put this song on, I feel uneasy throughout my moment of joyfilled pop bliss. It's like I'm being indoctrinated into some weird cult without my consent. The video (above) is an equally confusing joyride. She goes from aimlessly spinning and singing in a field with butterflies, to pawing on top of a cheetah, to floating around in space? Don't get me wrong, I would love to do all of these things, so maybe I'm just being jealous. I guess it's more that I feel left out because I thought I was on board with her willingness to make such a bold statement with her first single. With no announcement of an album release yet, though, I keep looking from "Hard Out Here", to "Air Ballon, and then to her other recent track on the Girls soundtrack, "L8 CMMR", wondering if she'll make it through this clear experimentational phase unscathed. She's definitely a different woman than she was when her sophmore album, It's Not Me, It's You was released in early 2009, so I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt. Anyway, for now, if you need me, I'll be over here "further researching" this song by playing it 10 times in a row.
